MultiObs data infrastructure meeting - OpenAlex and OpenAIRE
In this hands-on training, Dr. Alysson Mazoni demonstrates how to query MultiObs's database tables, using OpenAlex and OpenAIRE as examples. A 40-minute quickstart to get you exploring our datasets.
MultiObs data infrastructure - Accessing and joining datasets
Dr. Alysson Mazoni walks through exporting, and managing large query results in Google BigQuery, covering save options, Cloud Storage workflows, and best practices for working efficiently with MultiObs's datasets.
MultiObs data infrastructure - SciELO Dataset
In today's session, participants were introduced to the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) bibliographic dataset hosted on Google BigQuery as part of the MultiObs infrastructure. The session covered the relational structure of the dataset, including its main tables: works, authors, affiliations, keywords, and references. Through live SQL demonstrations, attendees explored how to filter publications by keyword, assess DOI coverage, and join tables to identify the most productive journals within a given topic. The session also addressed an important data quality consideration: DOI fields must be normalized to lowercase when performing cross-database matching, as DOIs are case insensitive by definition but case sensitive in practice. The dataset provides a structured representation of SciELO metadata, covering open access journals primarily from South America and the Caribbean, and can be enriched through integration with external sources such as OpenAlex for broader bibliometric analysis.
